IE2002 by Beckhoff

The IE2002 is a compact digital output extension box produced by Beckhoff for the IE Extension Box Units series. It acts as a remote terminal that mounts directly on machinery and distributes switching signals to actuators without requiring an intermediary control cabinet. By combining a sealed housing with galvanic separation between the control and field levels, the module simplifies wiring in industrial automation cells that require localized output control under washdown or dusty conditions.

The module operates from a nominal supply of 24 VDC. It drives eight output channels, each capable of sourcing up to 0.5 A per channel for resistive, inductive, or lamp loads. The internal logic draws only 20 mA per channel, leaving most of the available power for the connected load. Protection ratings of IP65, IP66, and IP67 allow direct mounting in areas exposed to water jets or fine particles. The output drivers are electronically monitored, and reverse-polarity protection prevents damage if the supply connections are inadvertently reversed. The circuitry is short-circuit-proof, allowing it to tolerate output faults without permanent damage. Isolation between the EtherCAT fieldbus and the output stage helps prevent ground loops, while LED indicators provide individual channel status information during operation and fault diagnosis.

A maximum fault current of 1.5 A is limited by the protection electronics and indicated through the built-in LEDs. Downstream devices are daisy-chained through an M8 4-pin socket, while incoming power is supplied through a separate M8 4-pin feed connector to keep load and communication cabling segregated. The process image presented to the controller contains 8 output bits, allowing each output channel to be mapped directly in the PLC program. The installation orientation is variable, enabling placement on horizontal frames, vertical panels, or rotating tooling without affecting performance.
