IE1001-5000 by Beckhoff

The IE1001-5000 is a digital input extension box manufactured by Beckhoff for the IE Extension Box Units series. It collects on-machine sensor signals and forwards them to higher-level controllers, simplifying decentralized wiring in industrial automation lines. By housing multiple discrete input channels in a sealed enclosure that mounts in any orientation, the unit enables compact signal aggregation close to field devices. Its modular design allows sensor connections to be distributed throughout packaging, material-handling, and other automated machinery instead of being routed individually to a central control cabinet.

The electronics operate at a nominal voltage of 24 VDC, and each input draws only 6 mA, keeping total current demand low. Signal evaluation conforms to EN 61131-2 Type 2 requirements, ensuring compatibility with common proximity switches and photoelectric sensors. A built-in filter with a response time of 3.0 ms suppresses contact bounce and produces stable state transitions in the controller's process image. The digital channels occupy 8 input bits in the PLC memory, providing a compact data block for cyclic processing. Control and fieldbus circuits are galvanically isolated to prevent ground loops between machine sections. Field devices connect through a downstream M8 4-pin socket, while upstream power is supplied through the corresponding feed connection. The bolted enclosure connections resist vibration and help maintain secure electrical contact on moving or high-cycle machinery. The input signals remain entirely digital, so the controller can process their on-and-off states without analog conversion or scaling. Flexible mounting and compact process data requirements allow the box to be installed near sensors where cabinet space or cable routing is limited.
