ES9186 by Beckhoff

The ES9186 is an EtherCAT I/O terminal manufactured by Beckhoff and supplied within the ES EtherCAT Terminals series. It serves as a modular fieldbus component. It routes low-voltage power and discrete signals through a single slice so that distributed sensors and actuators can be connected directly on a machine frame without separate junction boxes, which supports compact signal distribution near the point of use.

This terminal occupies only 12 mm of cabinet width and measures 12 × 100 × 68 mm, allowing dense grouping of channels on the backplane. Its mechanical layout follows the Pluggable Wiring Level design form, meaning that pre-terminated connectors can be snapped in without tools during assembly or service. Installation is on a 35 mm DIN rail compliant with EN 60715, so the slice locks into the same rail used by most control hardware. The nominal supply limits are <=60 V DC / <=30 V AC, permitting the terminal to share control cabinets that carry common 24 V circuits while also tolerating low-voltage alternating feeds.

The unit provides 8 outputs rated for 24 V devices, and its power path can conduct up to 10 A through the internal copper conductors to downstream slices. Wiring remains serviceable after installation because every signal path uses a pluggable wiring type, so individual plugs can be removed without disturbing the rail. For compact multiplexing, side-by-side mounting is supported on the left of the slice without a protective conductor, a feature identified as side-by-side mounting. The housing is molded from polycarbonate to insulate live contacts, and eight additional power contacts are molded into the base to transfer load current along the terminal row. All conductors are anchored by the polycarbonate shell, and the slice clips onto the rail in either horizontal or vertical orientations to match panel space constraints.
