Beckhoff manufactures the EPP1008-0001 within its EPP EtherCAT P Box Modules series. This compact field device is an eight-channel digital input block that translates 24 V sensor states into deterministic EtherCAT telegrams. By carrying communication and power on a single hybrid line, it lets machine builders position inputs directly on robots, gantries, or conveyor frames without separate power distribution or cabinet-mounted I/O slices.
Its bus interface complies with EtherCAT P, so the 24 V supply rails and data share the same hybrid cable. The network is daisy-chained through two M8 sockets with four-pin, P-coded, red interfaces. The module measures only 30 × 126 × 26.5 mm, making it suitable for cramped mounting points. Eight Type 3 input channels follow EN 61131-2 requirements, and each channel is wired through an individual M8 port. Each input draws 6 mA at 24 VDC, minimizing the load on connected proximity switches. An enclosure rating of IP65/IP66/IP67 provides protection against airborne particles, water jets, and temporary immersion. The Us logic rail operates at 24 VDC and supplies the 100 mA required by the electronics, while the Up rail provides a separate 24 VDC feed for field devices such as sensors.
The glass-fiber-reinforced housing is molded from PA6 polyamide and withstands typical shop-floor chemicals. The module can source a maximum sensor current of 0.5 A at 24 VDC across its eight input sockets. Up power distribution supports a maximum current of 3 A, while the Us rail also supports 3 A for downstream modules connected through the EtherCAT P trunk. Input edges are conditioned by a debounce filter of 3.0 ms, which suppresses mechanical contact chatter without causing significant delays in PLC response. The daisy-chain connection carries both power rails and cyclic communication data to the next EtherCAT P device.
