ELX9560 by Beckhoff

The ELX9560 is a power supply terminal produced by Beckhoff within the EL EtherCAT Terminals series. It supplies the intrinsically safe branch of an EtherCAT node with stabilized 24 V field power while maintaining independent logic power for the upstream coupler. By concentrating the supply function in one slot, the terminal allows energy to be routed to hazardous-area input and output modules without external wiring adapters, simplifying cabinet layouts in process automation systems.

The terminal's internal power rail provides galvanic isolation from the system bus, preventing potential differences on the field side from disrupting communication. Field conductors are secured by a spring-force clamp that resists vibration more effectively than screw contacts. The unit operates at temperatures from -25 °C to +60 °C, accommodating cold starts and elevated enclosure temperatures. Installations outside a sealed rack must provide at least IP54 protection so that dust and splashed water cannot reach or bridge the contacts. The downstream feed accepts only ELX signal terminals, which helps maintain the required intrinsic-safety parameters throughout the connected segment.

Single-core copper conductors can have a cross-section of up to 1.5 mm², while ferruled conductors are limited to 1.0 mm². The minimum accepted conductor cross-section is 0.14 mm², allowing fine instrumentation wiring to connect to the terminal block. Insulation should be stripped to 9 mm, with an allowable lower limit of 8 mm, to match the clamp depth and prevent excess bare copper from remaining exposed. The release pin accepts a 2 mm blade, reducing the risk of damage that could result from using an oversized tool. The surge withstand capability complies with Overvoltage Category II. This category makes the terminal suitable for secondary electrical circuits located downstream of the facility's main power distribution system.
