EL9187 by Beckhoff

The EL9187 is a power distribution terminal manufactured by Beckhoff and offered within the EL EtherCAT Terminals series. As an interface element, this terminal routes the common 0 V potential to downstream I/O modules so that field devices share a consistent reference. Installed on the same EtherCAT backplane as signal terminals, it simplifies wiring inside control cabinets and supports modular expansion in industrial automation systems.

This terminal carries up to 10 A on each internal supply rail, enabling multiple low-power sensors or actuators to draw current without external distribution blocks. It tolerates supply levels of 60 VDC or 30 VAC, which covers typical 24 V logic voltages as well as auxiliary AC control circuits. The terminal provides 8 additional power contacts that duplicate the feed, allowing neighboring terminals to receive the same potential without separate jumpers. The housing snaps onto a 35 mm DIN rail, a standard profile in North American and European control panels. Its enclosure meets the IP20 protection class, helping prevent accidental finger contact with live components when the terminal is installed inside a closed cabinet.

The terminal occupies no logical space in the EtherCAT process image, so its process data width is 0 bits. This arrangement lets the controller address downstream modules without requiring additional process-image memory for the distribution terminal. All outgoing conductors are tied to a single negative power contact, matching wiring arrangements in which the positive line is routed separately through fused terminals. The terminal has an enhanced mechanical design that supports greater resistance to vibration and shock than standard signal terminals when installed in an approved variable position. Its eight 0 V connections do not include protective-earth pass-through, allowing the EL9187 to function as a common 0 V distribution point while maintaining short return paths across the terminal segment.
