EL9184 by Beckhoff

The EL9184 is a power supply terminal manufactured by Beckhoff as part of the EL EtherCAT Terminals series. The module routes low-voltage DC power along the EtherCAT backplane so adjacent I/O slices and peripheral devices receive a consistent operating voltage. Its 12 mm housing follows the standard EL profile, allowing the unit to sit flush beside analog, digital, or motion terminals without increasing the overall node width. By eliminating separate feed-through blocks, the component reduces wiring requirements in compact machine panels where multiple consumers share a common control supply.

This terminal provides 16 connection points organized as two electrically isolated banks that separate the incoming supply from outgoing loads. Wiring is performed with a direct plug-in and screwdriver-operated spring mechanism, so conductors lock in place without torque-controlled screws. The cage accepts solid, stranded, or ferruled conductors in cross-sectional sizes commonly used in control cabinets. Each channel can carry a maximum current of 10 A, providing sufficient capacity for applications such as valve clusters, light curtains, or sensor groups. The power rail supports a maximum bus potential of 60 VDC, covering the 24 V and 48 V systems used throughout industrial machinery. Internal copper bars minimize voltage drop and help distributed currents remain within the permitted limits.

The housing clips onto a 35 mm mounting rail, and its retention latch supports a variable installation position so the terminal can be mounted horizontally or vertically. For downstream connections, the unit provides 8 additional power contact taps that can be bridged to neighboring EL terminals, and the taps are arranged as two groups of eight outputs to keep common returns compact. The IP20 enclosure protects against contact with hazardous internal parts but requires installation inside a closed cabinet, while the absence of a protective earth contact means that protective earth wiring must be handled elsewhere on the rail.
