EL9183 by Beckhoff

The EL9183 is a feed-through power distribution terminal produced by Beckhoff within the EL EtherCAT Terminals series. In an automation rack, it provides auxiliary voltage routing alongside the fieldbus, supplying downstream modules without adding extra I/O channels. By combining power conductors and the EtherCAT E-bus in one module, the unit simplifies low-voltage power management across distributed control cabinets. The terminal is intended for 24-48 VDC subsystems, motor brakes, and sensor clusters that draw current directly from the backplane.

The housing has a width of 12 mm, so multiple terminals fit side by side without exceeding standard card spacing. Copper bars inside the block tolerate a continuous load of 10 A, supporting circuits with greater current requirements. It attaches directly to a DIN rail with a width of 35 mm through a snap-on mounting mechanism. Supply conductors may carry a nominal potential of <= 60 VDC, which is permitted for protective extra-low-voltage circuits. The enclosure has an IP20 protection rating, helping prevent accidental contact when the terminal is installed inside a closed control enclosure.

The terminal provides 16 feed-through points that are internally linked to form a single potential group. It has 2 power contacts that carry load current directly to the next module, supporting power-contact pass-through without a protective earth pin. The terminal contributes no user data because its process image width is 0 bit. Fieldbus continuity is maintained through the E-bus pass-through, allowing EtherCAT communication and timing signals to continue through the terminal. The power contacts and signal conductors maintain separate potentials. The design does not include a protective earth contact, making it suitable for applications that isolate auxiliary voltage from chassis ground.
