EL9180 by Beckhoff

The EL9180 is a power distribution EtherCAT I/O terminal produced by Beckhoff and supplied in the EL EtherCAT Terminals series. The module routes supply voltage and protective earth within an EtherCAT terminal station so downstream analog or digital terminals can receive power through the shared contact system. Bringing AC or DC power onto the DIN rail assembly reduces the need for separate distribution blocks and keeps field wiring organized inside the control enclosure. The terminal performs its distribution function without requiring an EtherCAT address, process data, or separate configuration.

Three integrated power pins carry a combined load current of up to 10 A, allowing the segment to supply connected terminals without external jumpers. The permissible supply voltage reaches 230 V AC/DC, making the module suitable for compatible AC circuits or DC control power. The housing contains three power contacts supplemented by two additional power contacts, providing multiple connection points for distributing the supplied potential. The module installs on a 35 mm mounting rail that matches the TS35 profile commonly used in industrial control enclosures. Its enclosure is rated IP20, providing protection against accidental finger contact with hazardous internal parts but no protection against water. Appropriate installation inside a closed control cabinet is therefore necessary where moisture, conductive debris, or other contaminants may be present.

Distribution within the terminal is supported by an internal bridge 1-5, which connects the associated terminal points without separate external wiring. A dedicated PE contact bonds protective earth to the rail and provides a low-resistance path for fault current. The housing snaps onto the DIN carrier through a mounting rail connection, allowing tool-free installation while maintaining alignment with adjacent EL terminals. Spring-loaded connection points help secure field conductors against vibration and reduce the amount of space required for wiring. The module's compact terminal format also allows power distribution to be placed directly beside the I/O channels that use the supplied potential, keeping conductor runs short and clearly arranged.
