EL9080 by Beckhoff

The EL9080 is a power supply terminal produced by Beckhoff in the EL EtherCAT Terminals series. Within an EtherCAT I/O strand, it creates a controlled break between the system power and the field supply while maintaining the internal E-bus, so machine builders can segment loads without disrupting data exchange. In industrial automation, this terminal is installed alongside standard I/O cards to provide auxiliary 24 V distribution and fuse monitoring functions in a compact housing.

To accommodate various cabinet layouts, the terminal mounts on a 35 mm DIN rail and supports any installation position without derating. Its housing has an IP20 ingress protection rating, protecting the internal E-bus conductors from accidental contact. Communication integrity is maintained by the integrated E-bus loop-through, which carries the backplane signals through the terminal even when upstream field power is absent. For electromagnetic compatibility, the design conforms to EN 61000-6-2 and EN 61000-6-4, allowing the terminal to operate in industrial environments without additional filters. When the module is removed, the power contacts are interrupted, providing galvanic isolation for the load circuit. No address or configuration switches are required because the EtherCAT master assigns identification automatically.

In a dense terminal block, the unit can be mounted side by side without a power contact or side by side with a power contact, providing flexibility when grouping sensors, actuators, or separate supply rows. The terminal has no protective earth contact, so protective earth routing remains dedicated to other terminals in the strand. Its lack of an electrical connection to the DIN rail also prevents unintended ground loops. Mechanical resilience complies with EN 60068-2-6 and EN 60068-2-27, covering typical vibration and shock levels encountered on industrial machinery.
