EL4034 by Beckhoff

The EL4034 is a four-channel analog output terminal produced by Beckhoff for the EL EtherCAT Terminals series. As an EtherCAT node, it converts digital command words from a controller into standard voltage signals for actuators or transducers in distributed automation cells. The module mounts on a DIN rail beside other EL terminals and exchanges data through the internal bus, allowing compact, slice-based I/O aggregation. This arrangement lets the terminal operate alongside other analog and digital modules without requiring a separate network connection for each device.

Each channel is driven from the system power rail of 24 VDC, and the converter provides 12-bit resolution, so the smallest increment equals one part in 4,096 of the selected span. The terminal occupies a controller image size of 4 × 16-bit words, providing one data word for each output channel. Its enclosure has an IP20 protection rating and is intended for installation inside a suitable control cabinet. Mechanical installation uses a 35 mm rail that complies with EN 60715, and the four outputs share a common ground reference that simplifies wiring for voltage-driven devices. Multiplex sampling updates the channels sequentially and avoids the switching current associated with updating all outputs simultaneously.

The ground pin can source or sink up to 500 mA, supporting connected devices that require a local ground reference. Operation is permitted at ambient humidity levels up to 95% without condensation. Power for the internal logic is supplied through the E-bus, eliminating the need for separate logic supply wiring at the terminal. Time-critical applications benefit from integrated Distributed Clocks support, which enables sub-microsecond alignment of output events across multiple EtherCAT terminals. The outputs are single-ended and resistant to short circuits. The module also provides diagnostic bits when it detects an overload, allowing the controller to identify an output fault through process data.
