EL3152 by Beckhoff

The EL3152 is a DIN-rail-mounted analog input terminal produced by Beckhoff for the EL EtherCAT Terminals series. It provides voltage acquisition directly on the fieldbus, allowing the PLC to read sensor levels without external signal conditioners. By digitizing low-level process voltages at the network edge, the module streamlines wiring and reduces panel space in distributed industrial automation systems.

This terminal provides 2 independent single-ended channels that are sampled simultaneously, so time-critical measurements on separate loops retain phase alignment. Each channel uses a 16-bit resolution, providing 65,536 discrete steps across the input span for fine granularity during PID or data-logging tasks. Analog bandwidth is bounded by a 5 kHz filter limit frequency, helping prevent aliasing when fast-changing signals are present. Distributed Clocks provide precision of less than 1 µs, keeping the measured data synchronized with motion axes and other EtherCAT devices. The process image width of 2 × 16 bits plus 2 × 8 bits places the results and status flags into the host controller's memory map without software packing.

Power for the conversion circuitry is drawn from the backplane at 170 mA, eliminating the need for a separate supply rail. The input network has an internal resistance of 85 ?, creating a predictable load for high-impedance transducers. Total measuring error remains within ±0.3% FS to support precise signal monitoring in batching or test applications. Electrical isolation provides a dielectric strength of 30 V between the field side and the logic domain, and each channel can accept up to 40 mA of source current from connected sensors. The EL3152 has an IP20-rated enclosure and is intended for installation in closed control cabinets where exposure to dust and moisture is limited.
