EL3061 by Beckhoff

The EL3061 is a single-channel analog input module produced by Beckhoff for the EL EtherCAT Terminals series. It installs in a 35 mm DIN rail assembly and digitizes voltage signals so an EtherCAT controller can monitor sensors or actuators in real-time motion, packaging, and process applications. The module exchanges process data through the EtherCAT E-Bus, so no additional field wiring is required for upstream communication. Its compact terminal format allows it to be installed alongside compatible EtherCAT modules in an enclosed control cabinet.

The terminal completes a full conversion in 0.625 ms, making new measured values available to the network at submillisecond intervals. Its resolution is 12 bits with 16-bit presentation, so each sample is quantized into 4,096 steps and placed in a 16-bit container for sign extension and status flags. A front-end input filter with a cutoff frequency of 1 kHz suppresses higher-frequency noise before conversion, making the input suitable for typical industrial transducers. The front housing has an IP20 rating, providing protection against finger contact when the module is installed inside a control panel. The module receives its logic power through the E-Bus, eliminating separate power wiring for its internal electronics and allowing distribution through the backplane contacts.

Application data are mapped to the controller as 2 status bytes and 2 value bytes per channel, providing direct access to overrange flags and the signed sample without additional parsing. The input circuit withstands up to 30 V between the signal input and ground, helping protect the module from common wiring faults. The housing snaps onto a standardized 35 mm DIN rail, allowing it to fit established terminal assemblies without a separate mounting bracket. The circuitry acquires all applicable points simultaneously, avoiding phase delays that could affect time-correlated measurements. A variable installation position provides flexibility when arranging terminals within the available cabinet space. The single-ended input uses a common ground reference for connected voltage signals.
