EL3052 by Beckhoff

The EL3052 is an analog input terminal manufactured by Beckhoff as part of the EL EtherCAT Terminals series. Designed for decentralized I/O racks, the terminal digitizes low-level analog process signals and transfers the resulting data across the EtherCAT E-bus to the controller. Its 12 mm housing supports compact signal acquisition in control cabinets where available mounting space is limited. The terminal can provide process data for closed-loop control, monitoring, and data-logging tasks in industrial automation systems.

The terminal accepts 2 independent inputs, whose signals are sampled by a multiplex converter every 0.625 ms. Each conversion has a resolution of 12 bits, while the process data is presented as 16-bit words that contain value and status information. The electronics draw 130 mA from the E-bus supply, helping limit power dissipation in densely populated terminal groups. The housing has an IP20 protection rating and is intended for installation inside a suitable control cabinet. Two status bytes and two value bytes for each channel are mapped to the controller process image, allowing the control system to access measurements and diagnostic information during cyclic communication.

The internal analog stage uses a 1 kHz low-pass filter to suppress high-frequency noise before conversion. An input impedance of 85 ? establishes the electrical load presented to connected source circuits. The channels share a single-ended ground reference because electrical isolation between them is not provided. The terminal permits a dielectric stress of a maximum of 30 V between the signal connections and earth, so connected circuits must remain within this limit. Sampling follows a multiplex sequence that connects each input to the converter in turn, providing the stated update behavior without requiring a separate converter for every channel. Distributed Clocks synchronization is not supported, but NoCoE storage is available for retaining configuration data. Power is supplied through the E-bus, eliminating the need for separate external supply wiring at the terminal.
