The EL2008-0015 is a digital output terminal manufactured by Beckhoff for the EL EtherCAT Terminals series. This slice-style module installs on a DIN rail and provides eight electronic switches that translate controller commands into 24 V signals for actuators. Used in industrial automation, it allows a PLC to energize solenoids, contactors, or status lamps through the deterministic EtherCAT backplane without separate wiring harnesses or bulky remote I/O boxes.

The terminal delivers a nominal output voltage of 24 VDC, matching the common control level found in machinery. It provides 8 channels, enabling independent switching of multiple loads within a single housing. Each channel can supply up to 0.5 A, so small valves, relays, or LED indicators can be driven directly without external amplifiers. The enclosure meets the IP20 protection class, so it must be installed inside a cabinet but is guarded against accidental finger contact and foreign objects larger than 12 mm. From the software side, the module occupies a process image width of 8 output bits, meaning each physical output appears as one bit in the controller's cyclic data map for simple byte-wide access.

Energy released when an inductive load is de-energized is limited to 150 mJ per channel, protecting internal transistors during coil collapse. Operation is permitted at up to 95% relative humidity, provided condensation does not occur. Hardware safeguards include built-in reverse polarity protection, which helps prevent damage if the 24 V supply is accidentally wired backward. Power for the terminal's logic electronics is supplied via the E-bus, eliminating separate feed lines and allowing the EtherCAT coupler to distribute both data and supply voltage. The terminal supports variable installation positions, and its outputs can control resistive, inductive, or lamp loads. These load options allow the channels to operate common industrial devices while the internal protection circuitry manages switching transients from connected coils.
