The EJ4134 is a plug-in I/O module produced by Beckhoff within the EJ EtherCAT Plugins series. Designed for compact, high-density control systems, it snaps onto a carrier board and supplies setpoints to field devices through the EtherCAT backplane. In industrial automation, this plug-in simplifies cabinet wiring by embedding signal conditioning directly on the circuit board, allowing machine builders to create application-specific layouts while retaining the real-time performance of EtherCAT.
Communication and logic power are handled by the E-bus backplane inside the carrier. The module provides 4 individually addressable channels, giving a controller separate process-image entries for each analog output. Process data moves across the bus at 100 Mbit/s, which supports the transfer of all channel data during each EtherCAT cycle with low communication delay. Digital electronics are supplied by a stabilized 3.3 V rail drawn from the bus, while the output stage receives a separate 24 VDC field supply so that high-current loads do not disturb the logic lines. Separating the logic and field supplies helps the module generate precise voltage or current signals while limiting common-mode noise at the controller. Each independently controlled channel can receive updated output data through the process image without requiring separate communication wiring.
The module uses the designated Analog Output function class, so each channel converts controller data into a proportional voltage or current for connected actuators. Its compact form factor is intended for attachment to a Signal Distribution Board, allowing power layers and signal lines to be routed through multilayer copper instead of discrete wiring. Low-voltage differential signaling over the LVDS physical layer reduces electromagnetic emissions and supports high-speed data transfers between the plug-in and adjacent modules. The carrier-board format also reduces point-to-point wiring within compact control assemblies. EtherCAT communication allows the analog channels to operate as part of the same synchronized process image used by other I/O modules in the control system.
