The CX2042-0100 is an embedded PC manufactured by Beckhoff and supplied within the CX Embedded PC Systems series. The unit combines control, visualization, and communication functions in a DIN-rail format, acting as the central CPU for PLC logic, motion, and fieldbus management in industrial automation cells. Because it runs TwinCAT or other Windows-based runtime environments, the device replaces conventional rack controllers in machines that demand deterministic execution alongside standard IT tasks.

Processing is handled by an Intel Xeon D-1527 quad-core processor; its 4 physical cores operate at a base frequency of 2.2 GHz, providing deterministic multitasking for PLC and HMI threads. The CPU is backed by 8 GB DDR4 RAM, allowing real-time databases and image buffers to reside in main memory without paging. Two RJ45 ports with 10/100/1000 Mbit/s Ethernet support segmented control and MES networks, while four USB 3.0 interfaces deliver 900 mA each for high-speed cameras or drive adapters. The module carries 128 kB of NVRAM to retain process variables during power loss, and its 204 × 99 × 91 mm housing fits into compact control cabinets. Graphics output is generated by an AMD E8860 GPU clocked at 625 MHz, enabling multilayer visualization without separate cards.

The DVI-I connector supports a maximum resolution of 1920 × 1200, handled by the installed GPU. Frame buffering relies on 2 GB GDDR5 of graphics memory so that complex visualization pages and 3-D machine models render without tearing. For power distribution, the controller accepts a 24 V DC line, and total demand does not exceed 95 W, permitting parallel wiring with I/O terminals on the same cabinet rail.
