The CX1020-0000 is an embedded PC manufactured by Beckhoff for the CX Embedded PC Systems series. This DIN-rail module functions as a programmable logic controller and visualization host, allowing centralized motion, process, and fieldbus management inside control cabinets. By combining passive cooling with onboard networking and PC-based processing, the unit can replace a conventional rack PC while supporting real-time automation tasks and standard operating system services on the factory floor.

Processing capability is supplied by an Intel Celeron M ULV CPU that runs at 1 GHz, providing adequate performance for deterministic TwinCAT PLC execution and optional Windows Embedded tasks. The board carries 256 MB of DDR RAM, which supports medium-sized control programs, diagnostic buffers, and visualization data. Retentive storage is provided by a 64 MB CompactFlash card inserted into the Type I+II slot, so the operating system and user projects remain intact through power cycles. The electronics dissipate a maximum of 7 W under typical load, enabling fully passive cooling and eliminating the need for fan maintenance. A system bus connection provides the 24 V DC input, and overall power loss is limited to 11 W even when extension modules are installed.

The onboard switch provides an integrated three-port topology, with two RJ45 sockets available for inserting the PC directly into Ethernet lines without external hubs. The housing meets the IP20 protection class, providing finger-safe construction for installation inside standard control cabinets. Its compact dimensions of 96 × 112 × 99 mm allow the controller to share DIN-rail space with I/O terminals while keeping cabinet depth modest. A weight of 550 g limits stress on the mounting rail, and the 16-bit ISA (PC/104) system bus supports the connection of digital, analog, and fieldbus modules without changing the base footprint.
