CX1010-N060 by Beckhoff

The CX1010-N060 is a plug-in communication module from Beckhoff that belongs to the CX Embedded PC Systems series. It expands a CX1010 controller by adding a second Ethernet channel. This additional channel can separate machine and plant networks or support redundant network topologies in industrial automation lines, allowing traffic to be organized according to the needs of the control system.

The module links to the base unit through the Enhanced PC104 Bus, so data and power are exchanged without extra wiring. Its front panel has one RJ45 port for the additional LAN path, and the electrical interface supports 10/100 Mbit Ethernet. An internal three-port switch allows the two CX Ethernet interfaces and the additional connector to operate as one switched network segment, simplifying ring or star layouts. The extra port functions as an additional network interface, and the maximum supported segment length is 15 m when standard copper patch cables are used. Electrical power is supplied through the system bus, so the module does not require an external power feed. The same bus connection also carries runtime diagnostic data between the communication module and the controller.

The housing measures 51 mm in depth, 100 mm in height, and 19 mm in width, allowing several option modules to fit beside the CPU inside a standard control cabinet. The module mounts on the right side of the CPU, occupying a position between the CPU and the power supply within the assembled controller. Protection against contact and small solid objects corresponds to an enclosure rating of IP20, making the unit suitable for installation inside a protected control cabinet. The module tolerates relative humidity levels of up to 95 percent without condensation. Its compact housing and direct bus connection reduce the amount of separate wiring required for the additional Ethernet interface.
