CX1000-N001 by Beckhoff

The CX1000-N001 is an expansion module from Beckhoff that belongs to the CX Embedded PC Systems series. It adds a DVI display interface and two USB downstream ports to a CX controller, allowing operator panels, keyboards, or storage devices to connect at the cabinet front. The module snaps onto the DIN-rail backplane next to the CPU and shares the same compact housing profile.

The front panel carries one DVI-I connector and two USB 1.1 ports, providing simultaneous support for one monitor and two low-speed peripheral devices. Video is transmitted through analog and digital signals, so the output can drive flat panels that use TMDS and legacy CRT monitors connected through a VGA adapter. Electrical mating is provided through a 29-pin socket with the dual-link layout used by the DVI-I standard. If only a VGA cable is attached, the circuitry routes the signal through its DVI-A pins, preserving signal integrity without an active converter. The housing extends only 91 mm from the DIN rail, keeping cabinet depth requirements low while still allowing sufficient space for the cable bend radius. The overall height is 100 mm, matching the CX1000 CPU sections for uniform stacking.

A monitor cable length of 7 m can be accommodated before signal degradation becomes critical, covering typical distances between a control cabinet and a nearby operator panel. No separate power wiring is needed because power is supplied through the system bus, which carries operating current through the CX backplane connector after the module is secured in place. Each USB receptacle uses the standard Type A format, simplifying the connection of memory sticks or barcode scanners, and both ports support the full-speed USB 1.1 protocol provided by the core system. With a face width of 19 mm, the unit occupies one standard pitch and leaves adjacent slots available for additional I/O or communication terminals.
