C6140 by Beckhoff

The C6140 is an industrial PC enclosure produced by Beckhoff within the C6 Industrial PC Units series. It houses control hardware that performs PLC and motion tasks directly on the factory floor. The computer can process data from sensors and issue commands to actuators without routing every operation through a remote computing system. Its network connections also support communication with supervisory systems while keeping computing resources close to the machine.

The unit operates from a single-phase line with a rated input of 250 V, and its internal switch-mode power supply limits overall consumption to 100 W. Separate rails supply the motherboard and peripherals with up to 13 A on the +12 V bus and 25 A on the +5 V bus. This power distribution supports multiple drives, fieldbus cards, and high-capacity storage devices within the enclosure. The IP20 protection class indicates that live parts are protected against finger contact, but the computer must be installed in a clean control cabinet. Five power contacts are located on the pluggable terminal and are spaced 5 mm apart. The contacts accept 1.5 mm² conductors, carry 12 A continuously, and allow the computer to be isolated without disturbing its signal wiring. The chassis has a shock duration rating of 30 ms and can withstand an acceleration of 5 G, supporting installation on mobile equipment without jeopardizing solid-state drives or add-on cards.

The housing measures 383 mm wide, 362 mm high, and 265 mm deep. These dimensions allow the enclosure to fit inside a standard 600 mm control cabinet while leaving clearance for cable bends and nearby components. With a mass of 14 kg, the assembly can be secured to a suitable cabinet backplate without additional bracing. Operation is permitted at ambient humidity levels of up to 95 percent, provided that condensation does not form inside the enclosure.
