The AM8042-0F20-0000 is a three-phase synchronous servo motor developed by Beckhoff within the AM Synchronous Servo Motors series. It functions as a rotary actuator for closed-loop motion axes, producing consistent torque and speed profiles required by pick-and-place units, gantries, and other high-cycle machinery. Integrated with TwinCAT or similar drive controllers, the motor converts commanded current into precise angular motion that supports deterministic machine cycles in industrial automation cells.

The mechanical interface of this motor is defined by a 87 mm square flange that aligns with standard IEC mounting patterns. A rotatable angular connector or terminal box routes power and signal conductors, allowing cable exit to be set in the field for reduced strain. Position data is supplied by OCT multi-turn feedback, which combines encoder and power lines in one hybrid cable to simplify wiring. The shaft is manufactured as a smooth shaft, so keys or clamping hubs are chosen by the machine builder. For stop-state retention the unit is delivered without a holding brake; external mechanical locks or drive torque must therefore secure the load when power is removed.

Electrical performance parameters are assigned to the internal stator design labeled by winding code F, which links the motor to drive tuning files for current and voltage limits. The housing length corresponds to overall length code 2, providing a rotor stack that balances torque output and moment of inertia. This build is the Standard version, matching the motor series type and therefore sharing uniform thermal ratings with equivalent frames.
