AL Linear Motors

The AL Linear Motors from Beckhoff are a brushless, three-phase linear servomotor family engineered for highly dynamic positioning in equipment such as handling systems, textile machinery, machine tools, and packaging machines. Each drive consists of a coil unit working against a permanent-magnet plate made with neodymium material, and uses electronic commutation via a compatible digital servo drive instead of a self-contained motor package. Within the AL2xxx range, multiple sizes and configurations are available: different motor widths, standard or speed windings, and variants with or without water cooling to meet a wide spectrum of motion demands. For position feedback, the platform can interface with external measuring systems or the optional Magnetic Encoder System, which reads directly on the magnetic plates and achieves 0.1 mm accuracy without a separate scale. The motors are intended to be built into a complete machine axis with the required carriage, linear guides, supporting structure, and safety monitoring; correct thermal protection and precise mechanical air-gap setup are essential to reach the rated performance.
